Weight Loss Mistakes Women Make

Extreme Weight Loss Diets

Most diets require you to drastically cut your caloric intake. If you have a pear shaped body, you will just become a little pear. You need exercise and resistance training in order to tone up your body and get those sexy curves you’re after.

When you’re on an extremely low calorie diet you will lose fat but also some muscle mass. Your muscles aren’t getting the energy they need so they atrophy and your body tone suffers – you don’t want to look like Gumby!

Diets of less than 1200 daily calories cause a release of “starvation hormones” that slow your metabolism (natural calorie burning). Therefore, when you are off the diet, your body is in a starvation mode and will try to store up for another potential “famine.” The fat you lost will come surging back and worse, because of your muscle loss, you may even put on more fat than you started with.

Not Training With Weights

Many women I know are terrified of weight training. This is because most women want to slim and tone their bodies; not bulk up and look like a female bodybuilder or worse… like a man!

Ladies! It is impossible for you to “bulk up” and pack on muscle mass without special intensive training, professional coaching, nutritional supplements, and drugs (steroids!)

Women simply do not produce enough testosterone (male hormones) needed for significant muscle growth. Men have 30x the level of testosterone in their bodies than women do. Even with our macho testosterone levels we still have to put in a lot of hard work and heavy lifting to get extreme hypertrophy (muscle growth).

Yes, you will strengthen and build muscles when you train with weights, but these are muscles that give you a well-toned, healthy, and sexy look when you are in your bikini… The kind that will turn men’s heads!

Ladies, I encourage you to work out with weights because you will also improve on your bone density; preventing osteoporosis and some forms of arthritis.

Lastly, weight training helps you to burn more calories and raises your metabolism!

Doing Cardio Exercises Improperly

Are you guilty of reading a magazine while walking on a treadmill or on a stationary bike? Yes… any form of exercise is better than doing nothing; but remember that your objective is to lose weight! You must burn more calories than you eat in order to reach your goal. Casual walking while texting will not do much in helping you to drop those pounds.

In order to burn off just 1 can of soda, you have to run for at least 20 minutes. Yes – 20 minutes of huffing and puffing! A brisk walk won’t do much to battle that chocolate, pizza, or cupcake that snuck into your diet earlier!

More Mistakes:

– skipping meals… especially breakfast!

– eating only salad for lunch

– loading up on carbs in the evening right before you sleep
