Women’s College World Series: Oklahoma wins 17-inning classic over Florida in Game 1 – NCAA.com

Seventeen innings and five and a half hours later, Oklahoma is one win away from its second straight championship.

That’s right, it took 17 innings for the Sooners to top the Gators in a Game 1 that will be remembered for years to come. The Sooners twice had Florida down to its last out before the No. 1 team was able to tie it, but finally Oklahoma was able to put Florida away in the 17th despite the tying run being on base with a run already in.

Shay Knighten was the hero for Oklahoma in Game 1, lifting a three-run homer into the left-field bleachers off Kelly Barnhill, who reentered the game after a seven-inning start.

It almost seems impossible for the rest of the series to follow that one, but two teams this talented and hungry will find a way. Before Game 2 comes your way at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, you’ll want to scroll through below for a full recap of one of the greatest softball games ever played.
